About struggling with images
I’m a fifty something Brit who rather unexpectedly ended up in the American Midwest with my wonderful wife Ginger my three step-children and our four cats.
Now-a-days I’m enjoying the magnificent Ozark scenery and learning lots of interesting new ways of keeping myself occupied. I’m currently involved in my second 365 days project taking daily self portraits, which can be seen here: 365 Days of 2011.
My earliest memory of photography is of being a child model for my uncle. He was a graphic designer and photographer and my interest in taking pictures began while we spent hours poring over pictures, selecting suitable images for the brochures and corporate annual reports he produced for his clients.
While working as a computer programmer, I also worked for a studio shooting weddings. I later moved on to work in the multimedia production industry where I became involved with video and audio production, graphic design, script writing and project management.
Over time my work and home responsibilities increased and I moved into more senior management roles and spent more time managing and less time producing. I became more business oriented and my cameras, once always at my side, were left behind only to be brought out for vacations and photographing weddings and events for friends and family.
In 2006 with my children away from home at University I suddenly found myself with some undisturbed time on my hands and I bought my first digital camera, taking up photography in earnest again. The reflection on my life that the pictures provided was the catalyst for a series of life changes and upheavals that culminated in my emigration from the UK to America.
