Bluffs on the Meramec River, Meramec State Park, Missouri
This picture is another fine example of the ‘painterly’ images my little Fuji compact camera can produce.

View from the duck blind at Valley Water Mill Pond
Having spent all morning languishing in bed with my laptop some activity was called for. Not wanting anything too strenuous we decided to check out a small nature center just North East of Springfield.
At one end of the pond we found a duck blind with this magnificent view. So much for my saying I was going to try and cut down on the landscape lakes and rivers pictures.

Carol and Ginger

Mother and daughter. For me, this is one of those pictures that makes it worth all the effort.

Blue Kitteh
Despite being a haughty madam I have to admit that from time to time she looks wonderful, and tonight under the lamp with the Christmas tree (blue of course) behind her it was a picture asking to be taken.

Ginger and Tubby
Our resident Cat lady and Tubby, one of our four cats. Ginger must have known I was going to take a picture – she’s not wearing her glasses.
For some odd reason the lighting tonight seemed to have a little extra zing. Maybe it was because Ginger doesn’t normally sit in that particular spot. Whatever, I knew exactly what I wanted to capture, and my lovely little Fuji worked its photographic magic.

Iron Rooster
Jim and Carol (Ginger’s parents) came down to Springfield so that I could photograph his latest welded sculpture. Not the best timing as my main camera is FUBAR at the moment. Fortunately my compact is a very nice camera too.

Enjoying the ride
My son Keith and his friend Jon have been spending 3 months touring the US. They arrived back in Springfield on a surprise (for me only it seems) visit while crossing the country en route to Florida. I wanted to show them a bit more of the mid west way of life, so I took up my friend’s Tom’s offer to take us all out fishing.
Tom has been offering to take me out on the lake for ages and what with one thing and another I’ve not been able to set a date. I’d already had a look at his boat, but what hadn’t registered was the 200HP engine, and I don’t think the lad’s had fully taken in the implications of the beast at the back. It was fast and exhilarating, especially to someone like me who is more used to sailing than motor boating. Keith and Jon’s enjoyment of the ride is quite evident in these pictures.

Day Four, demolition
To reduce cost, some temporary buildings are being removed. Our task was to move some office furniture and then remove and reclaim the timber from the 80′ wooden walkway between the temporary building and the existing office building.

Survivor
Detail of the only surviving structure of Christ Episcopal Church, Bay St Louis.
The other church buildings were washed away by a 30′ storm surge when hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi coast on August 29 2005. The storm left 238 people dead and 67 missing in Mississippi alone.

Abandoned building at Bay St Louis
One can only guess that with the lower population it wasn’t worth this business staying open. This building, a long way from the shore just off I-90 is yards from a building that was destroyed.
We cleaned up rubble, wood and refuse from the site.

Ocean Zen
This afternoon we went out to do some food shopping and visited some cheap stores. The sky was quite special. In fact it reminded us of the sky in the opening credits of ‘The Simpsons’ which inspired another picture. I only had my compact camera on me, I deliberately shot wide, so I could crop out all the overhead cables in the post processing.

Final Approach to Springfield

The sun was setting as we were on the final approach to Springfield. I couldn’t see the sunset but the light on the wings of the ‘plane was special.

University of Southampton – Building 29
I’m trying to get back into the habit of climbing the stairs of this building twice a day. It’ll do wonders for my legs but nothing for my waistline.

Floating
Disconnected from the main buildings and the shore, the pier seemed to float in the mist.
